Basic facts are a key component of maths learning at St Patrick’s School.  All children should be practicing basic facts at home, based on their level of ability. Speed tests will normally be carried out in class at the end of each week.

The Maths Buddy programme is used in senior classes and we also encourage children to use the tool at home as well.  Where access at home isn’t available children can work before school or during break times, please just let your child’s teacher know.  Each child’s Individual login and password will be in their homework book and parents can also log in to check on progress.  Tasks will be set by teachers and progress on these is monitored regularly.

Learning Area – Mathematics & Statistics

In Mathematics & Statistics we want St. Patrick’s students to explore relationships in quantities, space and data and learn to express these relationships in ways that help them to be problem solvers and make sense of the world in which they live.

Global Ideas:

·        Know the key Basic Facts from the school overview and be able to apply these to their work.

·        Learn how to estimate reasonably and calculate with precision.

·        Be mathematical problem solvers.

·        Design investigations, collect and interpret data appropriately.

·        Apply mathematical knowledge to real life situations.
